Tyler Comrie is an independent artist and designer who translates complex ideas into images that communicate with clarity and craft.

My work (Hi):

Tyler’s work operates at the intersection of language and image, distilling complex ideas into visual forms that are immediate and enduring. Working across editorial illustration and book cover design, his practice treats images as acts of thought—precise constructions that clarify, challenge, and shape how a viewer understands a text or idea. Editorial narratives and literary themes are reduced to essential gestures, where meaning is shaped as much by what is withheld as by what is shown.

His work resists fixed stylistic identity, adapting to each problem while maintaining intellectual rigor. Through metaphor and restraint Tyler constructs images that function less as illustrations and more as propositions. His compositions operate as visual arguments, where form and idea are inseparable and each image is built through reduction, iteration, and critical editing.

Tyler lives and works in Salt Lake City, Utah. His work appears frequently in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic, and has been recognized by institutions including the AIGA and the Art Directors Club. He teaches and lectures on design and illustration across the United States.
